Display of Resource Columns in Calendar View and Assignment of Tasks

Name of Feature/Request: Freeze/Pin Columns and Fix Drag-and-Drop Reassignment in Calendar (Vertical Group by Resource View)

What financial, time savings, or quality of life improvements will occur with this: Dispatchers/Schedulers would be able to drag a ticket into any technician’s (resource) column and have it actually reassign — not just a couple of nearby columns, and not just the date/time. Right now, several limitations combine to make drag-and-drop assignment nearly unusable for larger teams:

  • You can only drag to columns currently visible on screen, since there’s no way to scroll left/right mid-drag — so most technicians simply can’t be reached this way, only the handful whose columns happen to sit near the Unassigned Pool.
  • Even when a column is reachable, dropping a ticket into it only updates the Start/Due date and time — it doesn’t reassign the ticket. A dispatcher can drag a ticket into a technician’s column, see it visually sitting there, and reasonably assume it’s assigned to that person — when it isn’t. This can lead to tickets sitting unassigned or misassigned without anyone noticing until it’s missed or delayed.
  • The existing filter-by-person option removes everyone else’s tasks from view, but it doesn’t remove their columns — so the screen is still cluttered with empty columns for technicians you’ve filtered out, rather than actually freeing up space to reach the person you’re trying to reassign to.

Fixing these issues removes an extra manual step (opening each ticket individually to reassign it) from one of the most frequent actions dispatchers take in a day, and restores drag-and-drop as a usable feature for teams of any size.

What we’re requesting:

  1. The ability to freeze or pin specific columns (vertical resources) so they stay visible while scrolling.
  2. The ability to filter resource columns in/out entirely — not just hide a technician’s tasks, but remove their column from view so more relevant columns fit on screen and are reachable.
  3. Drag-and-drop that actually reassigns the task to whichever technician’s column it’s dropped into, not just the date/time.

Attempted solutions so far:

  • Renamed technicians using initials to try to narrow column width and fit more resources on screen — didn’t work, as the calendar still displays the employee’s full name regardless of the Event Type/resource name used.
  • Used the existing filter-by-person feature, hoping it would reduce the number of visible columns — it hides tasks for unfiltered people, but their columns remain on screen, so it doesn’t solve the scrolling/reachability problem.
  • Currently working around the issue by clicking directly into each ticket and assigning/reassigning the technician from within that window instead of dragging and dropping.

Digging deep - Any additional Why behind this request / How was this accomplished before Striven: In our previous field service platform, all technician columns were accessible without a scrolling limitation, so reassigning a dispatch was a single, quick drag-and-drop action to any technician. In Striven’s vertical Group by Resource view, once a team has enough technicians to require horizontal scrolling, most of the roster becomes unreachable by drag-and-drop entirely — and even the few reachable columns don’t actually reassign the ticket when dropped. The filter-by-person feature comes close to helping but stops short, since it hides tasks without hiding columns. Any field service company with more technicians than fit on one screen will run into this same set of limitations, since drag-and-drop reassignment is one of the most frequent, hands-on actions in daily dispatch scheduling.
