Digging deep - Any additional Why behind this request / How was this accomplished before Striven in what system or software: Original Description: There are many things to love about the new report builder. How filters are added to reports is not one of them. When adding filters to a custom report:
Many frequently used filters are not included in the initial selection listDisplayed partial matches are not very relevant. As a result, you sometimes have to basically know in advance a long and not very intuitive field name in order to use it as a filter.
As one small example:
Using the Tasks dataset I want to filter on the name of the employee to whom the task is assigned. It turns out that the field I need is…
“Task: Employee Assignments: Employee: Name”
…but let’s say somehow I don’t know that. Things I might try to partial match in ‘select filter to add’:
“Employee” - nope"Employee:" - nope"Assigned" - nope"Assignment" - nope"Assignments" - nope"Name" - nope"Task:" - nope and, very frustratingly, not even all the actual Task: are listed.“Task: Employee” (with no space at the end) - nope"Task: Employee:" (with no space at the end) - nopemany others…Things that might help:
Present every match that contains the substring the user entered.Provide a way to "show all"Treat trailing “:” as trailing ": " when that expands the match list. Thanks for considering. | Previously accomplished: Old Report builder seemed to work more intuitively for finding filters for the user.
