What financial, time savings, or quality of life improvements will occur with this:
With visible margin % at the item pricing screen, it would significantly improve pricing accuracy, purchasing decisions, and financial oversight.

Financial & operational improvements include:

  • Allows real-time verification of true inventory cost basis

  • Prevents pricing errors caused by outdated or assumed cost values

  • Eliminates manual margin calculations outside Striven

  • Improves gross margin control and auditability

  • Supports faster and more accurate pricing decisions by managers

  • Reduces risk of underpricing or margin compression

  • Saves time currently spent exporting data and recalculating in spreadsheets

  • Improves confidence in item profitability analysis

This is especially important for companies with fluctuating vendor costs and high inventory turnover.

Attempted solutions so far:
Reviewed item-level screens and inventory reports, markup is available, but margin % is not displayed

  • Attempted to derive margin manually using markup and cost data outside the system

  • Exported item and cost data to spreadsheets to calculate margin

  • Attempted workflow adjustments using markup controls, but this does not provide margin visibility or average inventory valuation

All current workarounds require manual calculation and introduce risk of error.

Digging deep - Any additional Why behind this request / How was this accomplished before Striven:
Before using Striven, our prior systems and accounting workflows provided either:

  • Direct gross margin % at the item level, or both

This allowed managers to quickly validate profitability and pricing decisions without manual calculations.

In Striven, we can only see markup, but markup and margin are not interchangeable and produce different financial outcomes. Margin is the more critical operational metric for pricing and profitability control.

Without average cost visibility and margin display:

  • Pricing reviews take longer

  • Profitability validation is harder

  • Inventory valuation transparency is reduced

  • Management decisions require off-system calculations

Adding these features would align Striven with standard inventory and pricing control practices used by inventory-driven businesses.
